A few years ago, I heard a German parliamentarian on a radio programme talking about direct democracy. He was of the opinion that direct democracy would only encourage populism and that Germany also had a representative democracy. Parliamentarians are elected and speak for the people. I frowned at so much contempt for direct democracy. 
Only recently I heard an Italian philosopher expressing similar ideas in a radio programme.

However, in both contributions I had the feeling that his knowledge of direct democracy was rather rudimentary. This blog is intended to change that; I want to provide information about direct democracy and promote it.

Currently, representative democracies and the ‘Western’ model in general seem to be in crisis. The supposed calls for strong leadership are growing stronger. There can only be one answer to this:
